uniRank Facebook University Rankings aim and methodology

The uniRank Facebook University Ranking's aim is to provide an approximate popularity index of each University in the Facebook social media platform based on the total number of followers (in the past we used the total number of likes); it is not intended to rank higher education organisations or their programs, by the quality of education or level of academic services provided.
Some large Universities have adopted multiple Facebook pages associated, for example, to each Faculty and/or to each administrative area (i.e. Admissions, Marketing and Communications, Alumni, etc.). uniRank has chosen the most general institutional Facebook page for each University in order to publish its uniRank Facebook University Ranking for each country and for the top 200 Universities on Facebook listings.

Statistical snapshot

Below it is shown the average number of Facebook likes or followers for all University Facebook pages included in the uniRank database and the highest number of Facebook likes or followers reached by a single University which currently is Harvard University. From November 2022 we switched from likes to followers due to changes in the Facebook API/policy and the optional public disclosure of the number of likes for each page. Please note that the total number of likes and the total number of followers of each University facebook page are usually strongly correlated and do not differ much between them.
