Overview

The Big Ten Academic Alliance, formerly known as the Committee on Institutional Cooperation (CIC), is a consortium of 15 research universities in the United States, including some of the largest and most prestigious universities in the country. The alliance was founded in 1958 with the goal of fostering collaboration and cooperation among its member universities in the areas of education, research and service.

The member universities of the Big Ten Academic Alliance are: Indiana University, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Iowa, University of Maryland, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Minnesota, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Northwestern University, Ohio State University, Pennsylvania State University, Purdue University, Rutgers University, University of Wisconsin-Madison and University of Chicago (associate member).

The Big Ten Academic Alliance provides a range of services and programs to its member universities, including collaborative research initiatives, study abroad programs, library services and academic programs. The alliance also sponsors a variety of academic and professional development programs for faculty and staff, including conferences, workshops and leadership programs.

One of the most significant initiatives of the Big Ten Academic Alliance is the CourseShare program, which allows students at member universities to take courses offered by other member universities for credit. This program provides students with access to a wider range of courses and expertise than they might otherwise have, while also promoting collaboration and exchange among member universities.
