What are the most popular Universities in Portugal? uniRank tries to answer this question by publishing the 2021 Portuguese University Ranking of 92 Portuguese higher-education institutions meeting the following uniRank selection criteria:

  • being chartered, licensed or accredited by the appropriate Portuguese higher education-related organization
  • offering at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees)
  • delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format

2021 Sub-rankings by districts

The Portuguese Republic is divided into 18 districts (Portuguese: distritos) which are further subdivided into provinces municipalities (Portuguese: municípios), and 2 Autonomous Regions. The greater number of higher education institutions meeting the uniRank selection criteria are located in the most populated districts of Lisboa, which hosts the largest and capital city of Lisbon, and Port. The following uniRank league tables or sub-rankings take into consideration all districts which include at least 2 Portuguese higher education institutions meeting the uniRank selection criteria.
