What are the most popular Universities in France? uniRank tries to answer this question by publishing the 2023 French University Ranking of 232 French higher-education institutions meeting the following uniRank selection criteria:

  • being chartered, licensed or accredited by the appropriate French higher education-related organization
  • offering at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees)
  • delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format

2023 Sub-rankings by regions New

The French Republic is divided into 18 administrative regions (French: régions) of which 13 are located in metropolitan France while the other five are overseas regions. Regions are further subdivided into departments (French: départements). The greater number of higher education institutions meeting the uniRank selection criteria are located in the Île-de-France region, which hosts the capital and largest city of Paris. Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes (Lyon), Occitanie (Toulouse) and Hauts-de-France (Lille) also have a large number of French higher education institutions. The following uniRank league tables or sub-rankings take into account all regions which include at least 2 French higher education institutions meeting the uniRank selection criteria.
