  • being chartered, licensed or accredited by the appropriate Brazilian higher education-related organization
  • offering at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees)
  • delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format

The Federative Republic of Brazil is divided into 26 states (Portuguese: estados) and 1 federal district (Portuguese: distrito federal). The large majority of higher education institutions meeting the uniRank selection criteria are located in the states of Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Rio Grande do Sul. The following uniRank league tables or sub-rankings take into account all states which include at least 2 Brazilian higher education institutions meeting the uniRank selection criteria.
