Established in 1946, the Shiraz University of Medical Sciences is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the metropolis of Shiraz (population range of 1,000,000-5,000,000 inhabitants), Fars. Additionally, SUMS selects and sends student teams to national competitions and student Olympiads.

Financial aids at Shiraz University of Medical Sciences:

For students admitted in 2023, SUMS offers the following financial aid and scholarship opportunities:

  • The first-year scholarship: The SUMS admission committee, in coordination with the International Education Council (IEC), grants a maximum discount of 15% on first-year tuition fees for prospective international students. IEC approval is required for these scholarships to be awarded to each eligible student.
  • Annual scholarships from the second year: To support international students in their educational journey, Shiraz University of Medical Sciences provides various scholarships to applicants who demonstrate exceptional educational skills, academic achievements, and good moral character. These scholarships are open to all international students and can be applied for each year.

Types of scholarships and their coverage:

  • Type B1: 25% tuition fee coverage, applicable for the two semesters preceding the application.
  • Type B2: 20% tuition fee coverage, applicable for the two semesters preceding the application.
  • Type B3: 15% tuition fee coverage, applicable for the two semesters preceding the application.
  • Type B4: 10% tuition fee coverage, applicable for the two semesters preceding the application.
  • Type B5: 5% tuition fee coverage, applicable for the two semesters preceding the application.

Family scholarships: SUMS Family Scholarships are available for members of the same family attending SUMS programs. Each eligible member can receive an additional 5% scholarship per year, on top of their regular financial aid offer. This scholarship is renewable annually, provided that at least two family members continue attending SUMS programs. This rule applies starting from September 2022 and is not retroactive.

It's important to note that none of the SUMS scholarships cover additional expenses such as clothing, books, stationery, food, dining out, etc. The university offers fully-furnished dormitories for single undergraduate students, free of charge, as long as they are enrolled full-time in their respective programs.

Furthermore, all international students are required to have health insurance, which must be paid on a yearly basis. The cost of health insurance for the academic year 2023-2024 is 100.00 U.S.D.
