Founded in 1985, Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi (Girne American University) is a non-profit private higher-education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Kyrenia (population range of 10,000-49,999 inhabitants), Northern Cyprus. This institution also has branch campuses in the following locations: Canterbury, Hong Kong, Chisinau, Istanbul, Colombo, Washington. Officially recognized by the Yüksekögretim Planlama, Denetleme, Akreditasyon ve Koordinasyon Kurulu (Higher Education Planning, Evaluation, Accreditation and Coordination Council of North Cyprus), Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi (GAU) is a large (uniRank enrollment range: 15,000-19,999 students) coeducational Cypriot higher education institution. Girne Amerikan Üniversitesi (GAU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.
