Namibia Qualifications Authority

Namibia Qualifications Authority

Overview

The Namibia Qualifications Authority (NQA) is the national body responsible for the recognition and accreditation of qualifications in Namibia. It was established in 1996 under the Namibia Qualifications Authority Act, with the aim of promoting and maintaining the quality and standards of education and training in the country.

The NQA's primary role is to ensure that qualifications obtained by individuals in Namibia or from other countries are of an acceptable standard and are recognized for employment, further education or professional practice purposes. It does this by evaluating and accrediting education and training providers, as well as their programs and qualifications.

The accreditation process involves a rigorous evaluation of the quality and standards of education and training providers, including their teaching and learning processes, resources, assessment methods and student support services. Programs and qualifications are evaluated against national and international standards to ensure their relevance and quality.

The NQA also maintains a national qualifications framework (NQF) which provides a comprehensive system for the classification and recognition of qualifications in Namibia. The NQF helps to ensure that qualifications are comparable and can be easily understood and recognized by employers, educational institutions and other stakeholders.

In addition, the NQA provides guidance and support to individuals, educational institutions and employers on matters related to qualifications recognition, including the recognition of foreign qualifications, credit transfer and the recognition of prior learning.

Considering all this, according to uniRank the Namibia Qualifications Authority plays a vital role in ensuring the quality and recognition of education and training in Namibia. By promoting high standards and facilitating the recognition of qualifications, the NQA helps to ensure that individuals can fully benefit from the opportunities provided by education and training and that Namibia's workforce is well-equipped to contribute to the country's development.
