Established in 1964, the Technical University of Gabrovo is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the small city of Gabrovo (population range of 50,000-249,999 inhabitants). Documents 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 shall be authenticated (with an Apostil stamp on them - for the countries which have signed the 1961 Hague’s Convention) or legalized by the Bulgarian Embassy in the country where the documents have been issued (if the country is not listed among the countries which have signed the 1961 Hague’s Convention) and translated into Bulgarian.

The enrollment steps are as follows:

  1. First Step: Confirmation and Recognition of Master Degree Diploma
    In order to be enrolled as a Doctoral student, every candidate must have obtained a Master Degree Diploma first. Technical University of Gabrovo must confirm and recognize each Master Degree Diploma as well as check the recognition of the University (which has issued that diploma) by the respective Educational System. The confirmation procedure usually takes about 2 months, and the fee for the procedure is 100 BGN (about 60 EUR), which must be paid before the start of the procedure.
  2. Second step: Approval Procedure
    The Technical University of Gabrovo sends the application documents of the admitted students, along with a document confirming the recognition of the candidate’s Master Degree diploma, to the Ministry of Education and Science, following the procedure for issuing long-term (D-type) visas, in accordance with the legislation in the Republic of Bulgaria. The Ministry of Education and Science issues Admission Certificates only for the prospective students who have been admitted for study. The Admission Certificate is valid only for the academic year for which it has been issued, and the candidate must apply for a Bulgarian visa as soon as they receive it.
  3. Third Step: Doctoral Enrolment
    First option: The candidate can be enrolled as a full-time Doctoral student. The annual tuition fee for full-time training in Bulgarian language is 3000 Euro, while for full-time training in English language, it is 3500 Euro. The training period is 3 years.
    Second option: The candidate can be enrolled as a part-time Doctoral student. The annual tuition fee for part-time training in Bulgarian or English language is 2000 Euro. The training period is 4 years.
  4. Fourth Step: Training
    With the support of the Department and the Supervisor, an Individual Curriculum will be prepared for the Doctoral student. The subjects to be covered during the training period will be shown in the Curriculum. For full-time and part-time Doctoral students, the 3-year training period must be concluded. The Dissertation Defence Procedure must be paid by the candidate, costing about 1800 BGN (1000 EUR), depending on the status of the reviewers (Associate Professors or full Professors).
