Established in 1958, Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta) is a non-profit private higher education institution located in the the urban setting of the medium-sized city of Surakarta (population range of 500,000-1,000,000 inhabitants), Central Java. Officially accredited/recognized by the Kementerian Riset, Teknologi, dan Pendidikan Tinggi (English: Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education of the Republic of Indonesia), Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) is a large (enrollment range: 25,000-29,999 students) coeducational higher education institution formally affiliated with the Islamic religion. Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta (UMS) offers courses and programs leading to officialy recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study. This 58 years old HE institution has a selective admission policy based on entrance examinations and students' past academic record and grades. The admission rate range is 30-40% making this Indonesian higher education organization a very selective institution. International applicants are eligible to apply for enrollment.
